Welcome to the heart of the site...
I started writing some fairly generic stuff here about the the Ebbets field era and the transformation of the neighborhood over time (blah, blah, blah).

Then I realized I really should leave this space blank until I could capture something authentic from the neighborhood as it is today. So, I'm hitting the streets this spring with my microphone and a mission to interview anyone who is willing to talk to me about PLG now and in the past.

If you want volunteer to talk to me about anything PLG, email me at:

VOICES OF PROSPECT LEFFERTS GARDENS

Malik Sekou Osea (MP3)
DEP Engineer, Author
Lives on Woodruff Avenue
Malik moved with his family from Bedford-Stuyvesant to PLG four years ago. He likes the international flavor of PLG but is worried about the anger caused by chronic unemployment and unaddressed injustice, the impact of gentrification and the ineffectiveness of a political leadership he feels acts in symbols without really providing positive change for its constituents.
Bob Thomason
Reference Librarian, Community Activist
Lives on Lefferts Avenue
When his white neighbors fled Lefferts Manor in the 70s, Bob and his family stayed on. A fervent believer in Dr. Martin Luther King's vision of a fully racially and economically integrated society, Bob spent his adult life fighting segregation and working for the betterment of his community. Bob founded PLGNA in 1968 and was actually at the meeting where the name "Prospect Lefferts Gardens" was created (and yes, he also thinks it's awkward).
Our conversation with Bob lasted almost 2 hours. We are still in the process of editing it down and will present it in small installments beginning with the three mp3 files below:
